The Deadlands Chronicle
Kha’Zadune is the common name for the vast region of uninhabitable desert that comprises the lands South of the Gulf. Including such inhospitable regions as the Blood Fields (a blasted wasteland of red rock), the Dune Sea (a seemingly endless tract of sand), and the Pillars of Bone (barren salt-flats punctuated by natural pillars of salt reminiscent of buried rib bones), travel into it is universally considered suicidal. Though some hardy trade caravans do brave the land route around the Gulf between Shai’il and Atalia, such treks require secrets of desert survival known only to the few nomadic tribes who call it home. Historians claim that Kha’Zadune was once more fertile, and that the ancestors of the Kalash’Tari may actually have originated there, but if that is the case, nothing now remains of the lands they knew.
