The Deadlands Chronicle
The Claimed Lands is a region of dense, uninhabitable jungle that has been gradually spreading across the world since the end of the Age of Magic. The beasts and even plants within the Claimed Lands grow and reproduce at incredible rates, and seem to be actively antagonistic to all non-native beings. Cities in the path of the the Claimed Lands’ expansion are literally swallowed-up. Buildings are leveled as roots break their foundations and branches topple their walls. Men and women are devoured by animals the size of sailing ships. Those who try to run find their legs ensnared by vines and pierced by thorns until they are hunted down by beasts driven mad with murderous rage. The few survivors who escape the destruction of their homes can barely speak of the horrors they experienced, as if nature itself were at war. Worse still, those who live near the Claimed Lands are sometimes changed as well. People mutate into bestial forms as their minds descend into madness—their humanity scoured away and replaced by the basest, most primal instincts.
